Information
The following courses are aimed at a range of
audiences including undergraduates, environmental professionals, junior ecologists
and anyone entering into consultancy work.
All courses are based at the training centre and
will incorporate field trips. Refreshments will be provided but please
bring your own packed lunch, outdoor clothing and stout footwear.

BARN OWLS ECOLOGY, SURVEYING, SIGNS AND MONITORING
This on-site course encompasses the
theory of breeding specifics, legislation, presence/absence signs
and includes a comprehensive practical survey of an occupied site.

BATS SURVEYING, SIGNS AND
REPORT WRITING This comprehensive course encompasses the
theory and practice of surveying, report writing and legislation
protecting bats in the UK. A site visit will be made during the afternoon
session to carry out practical surveys at the historic Thornton Abbey that
is home to 4 species of bats.
SURVEYING TREES This comprehensive course
encompasses the theory and practice of surveying trees for bats, including
health and safety, report writing and legislation protecting bats in the

BADGERS ECOLOGY, SURVEYING, SIGNS AND
MONITORING This comprehensive course encompasses the theory of ecology,
breeding specifics, legislation ,presence/absence signs, sett types,
status and a comprehensive practical survey.
MITIGATION AND ARTIFICIAL SETT CREATION This
comprehensive course encompasses the theory and practice of badger
mitigation work and the creation and construction of an artificial
sett.

GREAT CRESTED NEWTS ECOLOGY, SURVEYING AND SIGNS
This comprehensive course encompasses the theory of
ecology, breeding specifics, legislation and presence/absence signs . There will
also be a site visit to a great crested newt habitat.
MITIGATION AND TRANSLOCATION This advanced
comprehensive course encompasses the theory and practice of legislation,
mitigation and translocation project work. Examples of great crested newt
fencing and compensation habitat creation will be covered.

WATER VOLES SURVEYING AND MANAGEMENT FOR
WILDLIFE CONSERVATION AND HABITAT PROTECTION This comprehensive course encompasses the theory
and practice of water vole survey/monitoring work for conservation
and habitat protection. A practical water vole survey will be
carried out during the afternoon workshop.
MITIGATION AND TRANSLOCATION - IN THEORY AND PRACTICE
This advanced comprehensive course encompasses the theory and
practice of water vole mitigation and translocation work. A site visit
will be made to a local donor site and purpose designed receptor habitat
during the afternoon workshop session. Candidates will also benefit from a
hands-on demonstration of how to use humane water vole traps,
re-settlement enclosures, feeding stations and territorial establishment
techniques.
